On September 16, 2013, Washington, D. C., Navy Yard Building 197 was under attack by one of their own. The headquarters for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAV SEA) became a battle zone. The gunman roamed the building, the corridors and stairwells looking for anyone to shoot.
Jennifer would remember, “God gave me a hymn that morning. He had never done that before.” Jennifer would be humming, “It is well with my soul…” When she reached the stairwell landing “between decks,” she encountered the gunman scantly ten paces in front of her holding a sawed-off shotgun pointed directly at her.
Jennifer is telling her story. And watch out, she is not holding anything back. “God left me here for a purpose. My job is to fulfill that.” Part of that fulfillment is this book. And the other part is to spread her message of resiliency and overcoming adversity.
You will be impressed with her candor, her strength and her faith.

Wow. Gripping story about how not to be a victim, but a survivor. America needs to read this book. We need more survivors in our world today. Thank you for being so brave.

What a wonderful story! Jennifer captures what it was like to live and grow up in “Americana” in the 70’s, then to be in a culture that even contemplates mass shootings. Nice insights to how we got here, and a wonderful list of solutions to get us out of this culture. If you hate mass shootings, read this book!

Everyone needs to read the chapter on Joe Biden. Wow, didn’t know that he was so self centered. Really changed the way I think about him.
Thank you for standing firm in your beliefs. And being a survivor. Love it.
CHERYL –
Jennifer does a fantastic job telling her story of strength and courage in the face of adversity… well, actually, in the face of a madman. Her testimony is one of God’s amazing love and grace when we are faced with a split-second decision. Jennifer’s strong faith made her choice an obvious one that required little thought, as she put her faith in God and did not fear her attacker.
Bravo, Jennifer, for being a living example of what it looks like to trust God fully, and to NOT be labeled a victim, but rather, an overcomer.

Someone once said, pay attention to everyone you meet, we can learn something from everyone. That is so true. Jennifer’s story provides a tangible, meaningful life experience for us to appreciate and reflect on the wisdom and meaning of Faith in our lives and an important call to action for each one of us in today’s culture of mass shootings: We can all make a needed difference by opening our hearts to our fellow human beings and looking out for one another. What a positive, compassionate, and empowering message!

Jennifer shows how tragedy and loss can be turned into inspiration and gain – through perseverance and faith. Amazing story of being shot at point-blank range with a sawed-off shotgun. And she never blamed the gun. Wow!
In a Culture of Mass Shootings, this book is the ONLY source I have found that talks about the true solutions to end this period in our nation’s history.
Well done!
